Our Story
How a group of friends turned game night chaos into something better
BoardGameTally started the way a lot of good things start: with a table, a few friends, and the kind of weekend routine you don't want to miss.
We used to play board games every weekend just for fun. The kind of games where you laugh too loud, argue over rules for five minutes, and swear you'll only play "one more round" even though it's already late. Somewhere along the way, we had a simple idea: what if we actually kept track of our games? Not just the scores, but the wins, the rivalries, the streaks, and the games that became instant favorites. We wanted to know who was really on top. Who was improving. Who always won that one game.
The Paper Era
So we did what most people do at first: we wrote everything down on paper.
It worked... until it didn't.
The paper would get messy. Sheets would go missing. Someone would forget to bring the notebook. Someone else would "accidentally" forget to write down a loss. Scores would be scribbled in a hurry, and later we'd stare at it like it was an ancient code we couldn't decode anymore. Our record-keeping became a second game of its own, and it wasn't the fun kind.
The Spreadsheet "Upgrade"
At first, it felt like we'd solved the problem. Everything was in one place. We could sort by game, filter by player, and start building little leaderboards. But the more we played, the heavier it got.
Someone had to set up the sheet properly. Someone had to format it, fix formulas, keep names consistent, and make sure the data didn't break every time a new game had a different scoring system. We'd spend too much time adjusting columns instead of enjoying the night. And sometimes the spreadsheet still ended up messy, just in a different way.
We realized we didn't just want a place to store scores. We wanted something that felt like it was built for game nights.
Something quick. Something clean. Something that made it easy to keep the tradition going without turning someone into the designated "spreadsheet manager" forever.

BoardGameTally is our easy way to tally scores across all the board and card games we love, keep everything organized, and finally see the story behind our game nights: the wins, the rivalries, the classics we always come back to, and the new games we're obsessed with this month.
